Abstract
Eledoisin is an aliphatic tacychinin composed by eleven aminoacids now prepared by synthesis;its chemical structure is similar to Substance P's (SP)'s structure but it is not present in mammalians as SP is present in hypothalamus. It is known that SP acts as neurotransmitter on cholinergic musarinic M3 receptors, that theese receptors are present and located on basolateral membrane of acinar and ductal cells of human lacrimal gland and that in this gland SP is present in nervous parasympathetic
philamentary ends.As eledoisin's and SP's structure are similar we can think that eledoisin stimulates lacrimal,as salivary,secretion-Eledoisin is available as collyrium and can be used even locally in conjunctiva as presoaking with it contact
lenses and taking it under the tongue.Ouer experience is a clinical experience regarding 22 cases of Gougerot-Sjogren syndrome. This syndrome presents a reduction of lacrimal, salivary and others exocrine secretions in the primary type and is
associated with other general symptoms in secondry type.We treated theese 22 cases locally with eledoisin collyrium and, after
the treatment,we found in 20 cases better objective conditions of the cornea as lacrimal secretion was increased and in some cases we found an increase of visual acuity too;in 19 cases patients felt subjectively better;in 2 cases the drug was not tolerated. We can conclude that eledoisin,as collyrium,is a very good drug as it stimulates, not substitutes, lacrimal secretion and it does'nt produce the numerous negative sideeffects we can find using pilocarpine. For theese reasons eledoisin can be considered the only drug efficient in cases presenting a reduction of lacrimal secretion among which we can think of old people
and people affected by many diseases even if not rare diseases.
